Getting Help At Home

FAQs About Home Care Service

If you are looking for some assistance and you think nursing homes and assisted living facilities are your only options, you will be happy to know that they are not. While nursing homes and assisted living facilities are still viable options, you do have the option of home care to explore before you make your final decision.

What Is Home Care?

Are you looking for extra assistance with chores around the house? Do you need some help with keeping your health in tip-top shape? Home care can help with both of those things.

Home care gives you the opportunity to have a caregiver, nurse, and/or therapist come into your home to provide you with the services and assistance you need to continue living safely in your own home. Home health care services can be short term if you are recovering from an accident or an injury, or they can be long term.

What Services Does Home Care Offer?

Home care offers a wide variety of services; you just need to find a home care provider who can provide those services to you.

Some home care services can include:

  • Cleaning
  • Laundry
  • Meal preparation
  • Bathing assistance
  • Grocery shopping
  • Wound care
  • Medication management
  • Infusion therapy
  • Physical therapy
  • Occupational therapy

If you are not sure which services you need or qualify for, once you find a home care provider, they can help determine that for you.

How Do You Find A Home Care Provider?

You should be able to look up home care providers in your area. If you are not tech-savvy or just want some assistance in finding the right provider, talk to your primary physician. Your physician can send a referral to good and well-known home care providers in the area for you.

This can help you out big time because you will not have to worry about finding a capable provider, but it can also help speed things along because some services offered may require a referral from your doctor anyway if you want insurance to cover the services.

Does Insurance Cover Home Care?

Insurance will cover most home care services if they are deemed medically necessary. Therefore, certain services will require documentation from your physician stating you need these services. The services that your doctor is not required to sign off on will usually require approval from your insurance company prior to the rendering of the services. If you do not get approval first, they could refuse to pay.
